Yesterday (1/7/2026) marked a long-overdue shift in the conversation around American health and nutrition. The food guidelines many of us grew up with (rooted in the original food pyramid from the early 1990s) has been inverted and madeover in a meaningful way!
For decades, those guidelines emphasized excessive grains (especially refined carbohydrates), created confusion around fats, and were heavily influenced by powerful food industries. The result? A Standard American Diet that’s left the majority of our population undernourished, overfed, and chronically unwell.
The makeover is a return to what the human body thrives on: REAL, NUTRIENT DENSE FOODS!!
This puts the focus back where it belongs:
• Protein: from both animal and plant sources – essential for muscle, metabolism, blood sugar balance, immune function, and satiety.
• Healthy fats: like eggs, butter, tallow, full-fat dairy, seafood, nuts, and seeds – crucial for brain health, hormone balance, and feeling satisfied/satiated.
• Fruits and vegetables: rich in fiber, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients that support digestion, detoxification, and overall vitality.
And it clearly moves us away from:
• Ultra-processed foods: products made with industrial ingredients, additives, seed oils, artificial flavors, and preservatives…designed for shelf life, not health!
• Refined carbohydrates: like white bread, pastries, sugary cereals, crackers, and packaged snacks.
• Added sugars: a major driver of metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, and chronic disease, and is especially concerning for our children.
I’m deeply grateful to those pushing this conversation forward – to leaders, advocates, and wellness warriors who are helping restore balance, integrity, and truth to how we nourish ourselves and our families.
