Perimenopause is nature’s invitation to pause, rest, and honor a gentler pace (like this snail!).
While much of the modern conversation around perimenopause focuses on managing symptoms like hot flashes, brain fog, and mood swings, what’s often overlooked is the profound life lesson this phase of life offers. Perimenopause is not just a hormonal shift – it’s a powerful invitation to slow down, tune in, and take better care of ourselves. Ancient wisdom knew this, and when we refer back to those teachings, it’s a whole other (refreshing) perspective on this time of life.
This chapter of life is a call to reassess how we live, nourish, move, rest, and protect our energy. It’s not a challenge to “push through”; it’s an opportunity to lean into the changes, embrace self-compassion, and create a life that aligns with our new needs. Rather than focusing on what we’re losing, let’s celebrate what we’re gaining: wisdom, self-awareness, and a deeper connection to who we are becoming.
The book, The Wisdom of Menopause by Dr. Christiane Northrup is a true classic in women’s health, and explores menopause not as a medical condition to be “managed,” but as a profound and empowering life transition. Dr. Northrup’s holistic approach blends medical insight with emotional and spiritual wisdom, helping women tune into the body’s messages and embrace this stage as a time of deep healing, renewal, and self-discovery. I’ve long admired her work for its integrative perspective and heart-centered tone – it’s a must-read for any woman seeking to navigate this season with grace and empowerment. Sidenote, her companion book, Goddesses Never Age, beautifully complements this wisdom by reminding women that vitality, joy, and radiance are not bound by age – they’re cultivated through how we live, think, and care for ourselves every day.
By educating ourselves and taking proactive steps, we can not only survive perimenopause but thrive during it, making us that much stronger for when menopause arrives. There is no one-size-fits-all answer, so trust yourself, advocate for your health, find a practitioner who will talk things through with you and listen, and approach this transformative time with patience and grace. We’ve got this!
Perimenopause is not just a hormonal shift – it’s a powerful invitation to slow down, tune in, and take better care of ourselves.
