The 4 Foundations of Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a practice of being present in the moment and paying attention to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. These 4-Ts of mindfulness are foundation tools that can help us to cultivate a mindful state of being.

  1. Tune In: “Tune in” to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. Tuning in means to be aware of what is happening in the present moment. This includes noticing our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations without judging or trying to change them. It is about being open to whatever is happening in the moment, without trying to control it.

  1. Take a Step Back: “Take a step back” from our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. This means to observe them without getting caught up in them. Taking a step back allows us to gain some distance from our thoughts and feelings, and to see them more objectively.

  1. Take Care: “Take care” of our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. This means to be kind and compassionate towards us, and to treat ourselves with respect and understanding just as we would a good friend.

  1. Trust Yourself: “Trust yourself” means to trust that you know what is best for you, and to trust that you can make the right decisions for yourself.

By tuning in to our thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations, taking a step back, taking care of ourselves, and trusting ourselves, we can be more aware of our thoughts and feelings, and respond to them in a more mindful way
